A lot can happen in a year, especially for youth exploring various opportunities as they stand on the cusp of adulthood. So here I am, a junior in college, looking ahead at what remains of my schooling and looking back at the steps it took to get here. I can’t tell you exactly where I’ll be after college, but there are already a lot of changes taking place as I transition into young adulthood.
A writer and artist, I am extremely interested in recording stories. I’m creating this blog to keep record of what I predict will be one of the great adventures of my life, stories I’ll remember most lucidly if I write them down.
Starting January 2011, I will be taking a year off from college to travel to Zambia, Africa, where I will give a year of service at Banani International School. A year of service is an optional period of time in which Baha’i* youth can volunteer in communities around the globe. Many who go on a year of service find themselves changed for life, with greater insight into their spirituality and role in the world as they move forth into schooling and careers.
I hereby declare this blog a creative space for me to explore the things I learn and the adventures I have on my year of service in Zambia. Be prepared for a hodgepodge of posts concerning wildlife and bird watching, art, spirituality, and religion.
